Resources for Parents

Two excellent resources for parents to teach the Catholic faith to their children are

Sunday Connection - from Loyola Press, a Jesuit ministry. This website gives families and catechists the Sunday readings along with activities and discussion questions to help them to prepare for Mass or for a catechetical session.

build.plant.grow – a new tool for catechists and parents written by Fr. Tony Mancuso, one of our own DSJ priests. He just finished lesson plans based on the Sunday readings for all three liturgical years. Did you know that we have a cycle of Sunday readings that span over a three year period? So if you starting with these lessons today, you would not get through them all for 3 years. That’s alot a great teaching for our families. Fr. Tony uses children’s books to highlight the main theme of each Sunday’s readings. It’s a great way for parents to connect the bible stories to children using children’s vocabulary and literature. Go to build.plant.grow and find the lesson for the coming Sunday, watch your child’s faith (and your own) grow and get more out of your Sunday Mass experience. Perhaps it will even move you to attend Mass if that isn’t already part of your family’s Sunday.
