Safe Environment Session for Students

Welcome! This year we will be offering the Safe Environment training to all registered children in Faith formation programs in the Diocese. Parents have the option to have their children participate in the live training or to do the lessons at home. Parents also have the option of NOT having their children participate at all- Parents MUST completely fill out the PARENT OPTION FORM if they do not want their child to participate in the live training or at home training.

Parent Meeting to answer questions about Safe Environment Training for Students, Tuesday, Jan 24, 7:15pm in Becket Hall.

The Safe Environment training will take place on the following days:

Kindergarten; Sunday, Feb 12, 9-10am.

grades 1-4; Tuesday, January 31, 4pm.

grades 5-8; Tuesday January 31, 7pm.

Confirmation students; Sunday, February 5, 10:15am.

Confirmation Retreat Info for Chaperones

Thank you for volunteering to accompany our candidates on this retreat. The Diocesan guidelines for this retreat can be found here. All chaperones need to be fingerprinted through the Diocese and also have completed the www.ShieldtheVulnerable.com course.

As a chaperone, you will need to read and fill out the following forms:

Health and Medical Release Form for Adults

Adult Behavior Contract

Driver Information Sheet (if driving)

Incident Report (It’s a good idea for you to have access to this form in case of mishap. I will bring a few copies, no need to print)

Confirmation Retreat Information and Forms

Here you can find the information and forms needed for our overnight retreat for confirmation candidates. The purpose of this retreat is to give the candidates an opportunity to “unplug” from their daily lives. It will allow them to center themselves and quiet their surroundings in order to hear God’s call and feel God’s love in their lives. This is an opportunity for “re”-creation. They will participant in group activities and prayer experiences that will encourage spiritual growth. In accordance with Diocesan guidelines there will be at least one chaperone for every 7 participants: 3 chaperones total (comprised of both genders) at the retreat.

The retreat is scheduled for February 10-11, 2012. We will depart from St. Thomas of Canterbury on Friday at 6pm. We will return on Saturday at 4pm. We will need the help of at least 3 parents each way to transport candidates to and from the retreat. If you are able to drive, please contact the Catechetical Coordinator and turn in the Driver Information Sheet.

The cost of the retreat is $25 per candidate. This is very low because the use of the facility is donated. The cost includes housecleaning and an appreciation gift for the owners, and food for the event. Participants will be asked to assist in the preparation of one meal during the event and also to contribute food items toward their assigned meal. If you would like to help in the planning or execution of the meal menus or your participant has dietary concerns, please contact the Catechetical Coordinator.
